So who is this Lucas guy?
Who's Lucas? That's me! I was like many people - I had a sedentary day job (as a web designer), ate all the wrong foods (mmmm pies) ... and didn't notice the kgs slowly piling on. And then one day I went in for a checkup before a trip overseas and was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. That was a big surprise. But the Health Centre I visited was really good - they gave me a gym membership, signed me up with a personal trainer, and scheduled regular appointments with a nutritionist.

Since that time my weight has fallen from 210kgs to 157kgs (and it's still falling). I sleep better at night, my blood sugar levels are back to normal, and I'm eating more healthily. I exercise almost every day, and attend a martial arts class 4 nights a week.

So where did the inspiration for this website come from? Well one of the first diets I tried was called the "geek diet." Targeted at people like me, it involved using a spreadsheet and various weighted-average formulas to track, graph and predict weight loss. Just the sort of thing to excite a geek and motivate them to lose weight. And then my gym trainer started asking me to record my exercise, and my nutritionist want me to keep a food diary... and I thought "I'm a web designer, why can't I do all of this online and allow my professionals to view it that way instead of having to write things down on paper all the time?". That's where I came up with "Saving Lucas" - these tools are literally helping me save my life. And I want them to do the same for you. I still get excited when I see the trend line in my weight graph heading South ;)
