Weight and calorie tools:
The tools are a guide, they are not to be used as an absolute value. Calories can vary for a number of very sensible reasons - size of portion, different brand of that same food. Be sensible and use the tool as a guide. As our Food Database grows over time, it will become more accurate; be patient - good things and results take time.

How to use the Calorie and Exercise tools:
A typical person (meaning that mythical person who is the average height, weight, and average exercise) might use 1500 calories per day. You need to work out sensibly, what is your daily calorie output.

Your food diary adds the number of calories you're eating each day as you add your daily meals and snacks. A typical person might eat 2000 calories per day.

2000 calories per day of food - burning 1500 calories per day = a 500 calorie surplus.

In general, a calorie surplus means you will put on weight. If the number of calories in is less than the number of calories out, you will lose weight.

You can control your weight by either eating less calories, or by exercising more, or by combining less food with more exercise in a balanced way.

In this example, if the typical person were to exercise and burn 700 calories per day, then their weight would slowly reduce.

So, in simple terms, use the food tracker and the exercise tracker to find the balance that is correct for you.
