I’m still here!

August 15th, 2008

Work has consumed my life recently, but all is well with the weight loss. My hba1c is still hanging around 6.3, blood pressure 120/80, and my weight now down to the mid-160s. I’ve even started boxing training with a friend at another gym in the weekends… who would have thought!

Another update

May 12th, 2008

Hi again, sorry for the delay in posting. Everything’s going very well at the moment – I’m down to my lowest weight so far (172.4kg). My blood sugar is sitting at a nice stable 6.3. The new site is coming along well, I spent a day in the weekend building more page templates. Once they’re all done, I plug in my code and then I’ll have something more for you to look at :)

The new site…

April 10th, 2008

The new site is coming along well! The design is almost done, and I’m hoping to start building it this weekend. After that all of the tools should look pretty cool!
The gym has been going OK, but with all the work we’ve had on I’ve missed a few days….

Another good report!

March 11th, 2008

I’ve just come back from seeing Anna, and I think I’m past the last plateau and on another downward slope with my weight. Finally! I think the new gym program has helped.

Here are some figures for you:

25 February

Weight: 179kg

Fat: 77.6kg

Lean Muscle: 101.4kg

11 March

Weight: 175.8kg

Fat: 71.2kg

Lean Muscle: 104.6kg

… w00t!

Two new tools!

March 2nd, 2008

Hello again!
I’ve now added a very simple Food Diary and a similar Exercise Diary to the tools section (http://www.savinglucas.com/tools/) Have a play, report any bugs, and let me know what you think!
My last visit to Anna went well, my weight hadnt dropped that much, but my lean muscle was up and my fat % was down so that’s a good thing!
My trainer’s new workout program is now much more intensive – it’s still alternating upper and lower body, but each workout is much harder!
Hope you’ve all had a great week, talk to you again soon

Another good week!

February 19th, 2008

I’ve just come back from seeing Anna and my efforts of the last week have paid off. Officially I’m down to 178.2kg. Hydration is good, and blood sugar right now is 5.6, also good! My friend Daniel is working on a design for my site which looks awesome… can’t wait to put it into practise!

More tools!

February 17th, 2008

OK I went a bit crazy and added a blood sugar tracker and a Harvard Step Fitness test tool. Again, they’re rough and ready and probably have bugs, and you shouldn’t rely on them for accurate medical information. But they’re useful tools and as I work on the site, your data will remain intact as we go.

A new tool…

February 17th, 2008

Hi all

I’ve just thrown together a BMI (Body Mass Index) tracking tool, and it’s available in the tools section ( http://www.savinglucas.com/tools/ ) along with the weight tracker. The first time you use it you’ll need to enter your height (unless you’re a new user, in which case you’ll be prompted for height during signup). It’s only rudimentary, but have a play and let me know what you think!

Exciting!

February 15th, 2008

Well, a couple of days since I re-started my gym and diet program and I’m already seeing the benefits (my trainer says the body has a memory and it’s easy to pick up where you left off if you dont leave it too long!). I went from 182.2kg when I saw Anna to a reading of 179.5kg yesterday! I’m also easing in to a much more vigorous programme which is exciting.
I’ll be bringing some more tools online for you soon. For example, a blood glucose tracker, a BMI tracker, a fitness tracker and a food diary system (once I work out the best way to do that!). So stay tuned :) I’m also working on a design so I can make a proper site of this blog and all it’s tools. Until next time, stay away from those pies!

A rough patch…

February 12th, 2008

So, it’s been a little while since I posted anything here. That’s mainly because of a habit I have. For example, if my weight goes up for any reason, then I wont take or record a measurement. I’ll wait till it goes down, so my weight graph always looks good – it’s always on a downward slope. The same principle applies to my blog :) Over Christmas my weight pretty much stayed put. Over the last month, we’ve been very busy at work – we have two new employees, who required a lot of work initially, meaning we skipped the gym a lot in the mornings. Also, our social life exploded. We have people coming to see us almost every night, which is great – but it meant I was buying chips etc (to be a good host) and then having a few… and that ended up as a slightly downwards spiral. Plus we’ve been so busy that shopping has suffered, meaning we’re buying more meals than we’re preparing, which isn’t good either.I’ve just come back from seeing Anna, my nutritionist, to see the impact of all of this. Here are some figures:

11 January 2008

Weight: 182.8kg

Fat: 75.8kg

Lean Muscle: 107kg

12 February 2008

Weight: 182.2kg

Fat: 79.2kg

Lean Muscle: 103kg

So that’s interesting, the fat/lean muscle ratio changed quite a bit but the weight actually went down.I just took my blood sugar (this is just before lunch) and it’s 6.3, so not too bad there :) So, how to combat this? Here’s what I’m doing:- Going to see Anna in a week instead of in a month- Resuming my daily food diary- Returning to my prescribed diet. Anna thinks I should go back to a steak at night for a little while in order to reacclimatise- Doing a big shopping mission tonight, only buying the foods I need- Getting rid of all chips and snack foods. Guests will now have to bring their own or do without. I don’t think it’ll be a big deal :) - Resuming the gym! My trainer will be there more often now, and on Friday once we’re back into the groove he’ll rework our programmesDespite the “challenge,” I’m almost glad it happened, because I caught it early, and have taken remedial steps which I feel good about. So, I hope that’s some motivation to anyone else going through a “Sticky patch” in their weight loss regime!

I’ll keep blogging as I go :)
