Sorry about the length of time since my last post! The gym closed over the Christmas period (which is a bummer) and opens next Monday, so Daniel and I will be back the moment it opens next Monday!
Christmas was an interesting time, diet-wise. I stayed in Auckland over the whole period which in part mean that I was away from the temptations associated with Xmas feasting (although I did cook a big roast on Christmas Eve…). The week before Christmas I had an appointment with Christine, my diabetic nurse. My glycosylated hemoglobin count (HbA1c) was down to 6.3% which is great. The last time I saw her it was 6.8%, and she was hoping it would be down to 6.5%.. so 6.3% is a good sign. (The HbA1c test measures your average blood glucose over the past four to six weeks. It measures how much glucose has become stuck onto your red blood cells. Red blood cells have a lifespan of about six weeks and so the test gives a good indication of what your overall blood glucose levels have been throughout that time. A general range for HbA1c levels is:
* Less than or equal to 7% is a very healthy HbA1c level
* Between 7% and 8% is a fair HbA1c level and needs work to improve
* Between 8% and 10% indicates your blood glucose levels are much too high
* Above 10% indicates your blood glucose levels are extremely high. )
Weight-wise things are pretty static which isnt too bad considering the roast and the lack of gym visits, but I’m still dropping weight (I have an appointment with my nutritionist next week so I have to impress her!)
I’m using some holiday time to work on a weight tracker for this site. You’ll be able to register and login to update your own weight readings, and view and print graphs of your weight over time. It probably wont be super pretty to start with but it’s one step on the road to my plan to build a whole site around tracking and managing your health stats… I’ll let you know when it’s ready to test!
